Fourth Grade Band

Welcome to Band at Horne Street School

Beginning a band instrument is an exciting time for fourth graders. All Dover fourth grade band members will meet in instrument sections at Woodman Park School to learn the basics before bringing instruments to school. Dover music teachers and DHS musicians will be on hand to help families get off to a great start!

Meet your Instrument Night at WPS (with instruments and parents)

October 3rd: Flutes (5:30 - 6:00 pm), Clarinets (6:15-6:45 pm), Alto Saxophone (7-7:30 pm)

October 4th: Trumpet (5:30 - 6:00 pm), Trombones (6:15 - 6:45 pm)

Instrument lessons will be held at 2:30 - 3:00 pm at HSS. The day of the week will depend on which instrument your child chooses to play. We will begin lessons without instruments the week of September 17th.  Students are expected to have their instruments by October 3rd to be prepared for their introductory lesson.

Regular Lesson Schedule (beginning 9/24):  2:30 - 3 Mondays: Trumpets

Tuesdays: Trombones Wednesdays: Flutes

Thursdays: Clarinets

Fridays: Saxophones

Instruments can be rented at EarCraft Music and Ralph’s House of Tone - both located in Dover. If you have your own instrument, please bring it to me to get it checked for playability before lessons begin. The Dover Music Department recommends brands for durability and ease of playing. Yamaha is recommended for all instruments. Vito clarinets and Gemeinhardt flutes are excellent for beginners as well.

Full band rehearsals including all instruments together will be held on Tuesday mornings at 7:30 am at HSS. We will not begin full band until late October/early November.

Concert performances are a vital part of music education. Band is a team activity and everyone’s attendance is necessary. I will communicate the January and June date as soon as it is available. I am looking forward to a great year of music.

Thank you, Roseanna Drysdale
